Welcome
Thanks for checking out my SXSW Twitter Music Recommendation Engine. I came up with the idea while watching and twittering about the numerous bands all around Austin, TX for SXSW. There was no way to see everyone I would have liked to, and as much as I enjoyed stumbling upon many acts I had never heard before there are still countless acts that completely escaped my radar. I figured scanning through everyones Twitter messages at SXSW would be a great way to find out about bands I missed, and this site is the result of my labor.
Quick Start
If you're not sure where to start, try some of my favorite shows from the week:
- * Reflection Eternal
- * Amanda Blank
- * Doomtree
- * U-N-I
- * Pete Philly & Perquisite
- * Thunderheist
- * Mumford & Sons
- * K'naan
- * Shout Out Out Out Out
Advanced
When browsing related bands for a given band, you can narrow it down and only see bands related to those two bands. For example, here is a link to view bands related to both Reflection Eternal and U-N-I. If the number of related users is highlighed, click there to see bands related to both.
Future
Tomorrow (Saturday) I'm driving back to Portland, OR from Austin, TX. I wanted this up before I left, and due to time constraints some features had to be left out of this initial version. The two greatest downfalls currently are alternate or mis-spellings of a band are not represented, and bands with common names are over-represented. As such, I want to allow users (you guys!) to suggest alternate spellings for bands and flag twitter messages that are not related to the band in question.
There are also some more advanced features I'll be adding as time allows. To be alerted to updates either sign up for a newsletter on the right hand side or add me (enactd) on Twitter.
Coming Soon:
In the next 2 weeks you'll be able to search by band hometown, such as Austin, TX or Portland, OR.
You'll also be able to browse Twitter messages by user, so if you like what someone has written you can jump directly to what they've written about other bands.
